The Good Tonic

We are delighted to be stocking David Trubridge’s World renowned environmentally responsible designer lights.

New Zealand based David Trubridge is one of the world’s preeminent designers and a recognised leader in environmentally responsible design. Countless influential international publications have featured Trubridge’s iconic work, which ultimately launched the 'raw sophistication' design trend. In 2008, the French magazine Express listed him as one of the top 15 designers in the world. He is the recipient of the 2005 Antartica fellow and in 2007 he was given NZ’s highest design award, the John Britten Award, by the Designer’s Institute of NZ.

Whatever the project, you'll find a stunning work of design to complement the space. Each of the pieces are a statement of their own, a striking single element or large cluster installation.  Come in and have a chat, we can help you decide on the size, style, and colour option best suited for your space.

From David's beginnings as a forester and furniture maker, a deep connection to nature was built. Like us at the good tonic, David and the team have a deep respect for nature and the environment, every single product is the result from inspections and inspirations from mother nature. The processing and manufacturing of our designs is done environmentally as possible.

Their business is comprised of two distinct yet congruous areas: production which manufacture kitset lights, and the design studio.  The kitset lights are designed to be 1/40th the size of an assembled one to help offset the harmful effects of shipping.

Driven by a strong environmentally conscious philosophy we work developing ideas and artistic design pieces for an international client base.

The company has been a silent supporter of the Maraetōtara Tree Trust for quite a few years now and have enjoyed seeing rivers going from strength to strength! This couldn’t have been achieved without the sales of our lights, with over $10,000 per year being donated to the trust from your purchases.

New Brands arriving daily

As a team, Nordgreen functions outwardly to create a customer experience that concentrates on the customer needs as well as a means to promote the sustainable values of the company further. Nordgreen works to make lasting customer experiences that begin with a committed team and expand to meet the needs of our global community.

Nordgreen is a typical Danish surname, combined from two words - 'Nord' and 'Green.' The "Nord" is characteristic of our Nordic identity. The "Green" embodies our commitment to our environment.

In the Nordic region, there’s a strong connection to nature and its ability to endure the challenges of time. There is an inherent responsibility to social and environmental causes to improve life for all. In the Nordic region, sustainability is a way of life, creating useful and long-lasting solutions because it’s the right thing to do.

For form and function

Created by award-winning designer Jakob Wagner, our minimalist Danish designs honour form and function in equal measure, with each having a different story to tell. These are modern classics: watches designed for everyone, everywhere.

Nordgreen aligns its Corporate social responsibility initiatives through its ‘Giving Back Program’ Nordic principles supporting the health, educational, and environmental challenges faced by our global community.

  • The equivalent of twenty football fields of rainforest cut down every minute.
  • 1 in 5 children in the Central African Republic won’t see their 5th birthday.
  • Almost 70% of India’s children drop out of school before year 10.

With so many people in need of help across the globe, our Giving Back Program has become an integral part of who we are as a company. This is why the good tonic chose to stock Nordgreen watches, we knew you cared as we do, we wanted to make sure you feel good not just about the watch you buy, but about what your watch stands for.

That’s why with each watch you purchase, you have the unique ability to donate part of that purchase to the cause that means the most to you. Your watch is the start of your story, and we hope that together, we can work toward a more sustainable planet.

As we mentioned in the last update, we have an amazing afternoon planned for you.

The Good Tonic in conjunction with Flavours of Plenty Food Festival 2022 presents The Good Fusion, a fusion of Food, Fashion & Music, at Port Ohope Wharf, Sunday 10th April 2022. Time: 2 – 5 pm

We are bringing together some of the finest artisans, designers & musicians, all with the same ethical ethos, slow, sustainable production with reuse & repurpose as their core values. The Flavours of Plenty festival is predominantly food orientated, but we thought, let’s make it a fusion of all the thing we love, and have a lazy Sunday afternoon filled with bubbles, banter and great entertainment.

You will be welcomed with a glass of bubbles, Mills Reef Winery, or local Kombucha from Roa Kombucha.  Your grazing platter will be on your table, showcasing some of the delicious produce the area has to offer presented by Little Thyme Deli. You can sit back and enjoy the fashion show on the ‘catwalk’ whilst listening to one of the area’s best musicians, The Huneybee Wild.

All profits will be going to our charity of choice - the Dream Chaser Foundation - A Chace Topperwien Charity, supporting children and their families facing childhood cancer in Aotearoa.

The purpose of the Foundation is to offer financial, emotional, and practical support to children with cancer and their families in Aotearoa. Ryan and Keri know first-hand how stressful and uncertain the child cancer journey can be so have concentrated on support services that really make a difference.

We have collaborated with some of our favourite retailers and sustainable designers to showcase their new collections on the runway. Our aim for the event is to help drive brand awareness for the designers involved, to help showcase the diverse styles and range of sustainable fashion and lifestyle brands.
